Tortuga Rum

Tortuga Rum Company has been appointed the exclusive Cayman Islands distributor for Rum-Bar White Overproof Rum of Worthy Park Estates, a cane refinery and distillery in St. Catherine parish, Jamaica. The rum, with a bottling strength equivalent to 130 US proof, is available at all Tortuga Liquor locations.

Trinity has appointed

Angela Nightingale as the company’s new general manager. She will be responsible for Trinity’s local service offering and the principal management of all North American account business as well as general management of the Cayman operation at Trinity Fund Administration (Cayman) Ltd. Ms Nightingale joins Trinity from Offshore Business Solutions, where she was a senior associate.

GAIM Ops Cayman

GAIM Ops Cayman and Boutique Cartier

have donated US$16,668 to Hedge Fund Care Cayman. A total of US$26,000 was raised at an event held on the opening night of the GAIM Ops Cayman 2011 hedge fund conference. GAIM Ops Cayman made a further donation to the R Baby Foundation. Hedge Funds Care is an international charity that aims to prevent and treat child abuse. UBS Fund Services

UBS Fund Services (Cayman) Ltd recently placed 12 students for three months in its summer intern programme. The students, depending on their areas of interest and skills, were placed in a range of departments including compliance, banking operations, IT and hedge fund accounting. “UBS is committed to providing training opportunities to young Caymanians, as part of its philosophy of making a positive contribution to the local community,” said Darren Stainrod, head of UBS Fund Services (Cayman) Ltd. “This experience allows young Caymanians to get a real sense of the business world and exposes them to the operations and demands of a professional services firm in the hedge fund industry. It also allows us an opportunity to tap into the local talent pool and identify those with the greatest potential,” he noted.

SaxonMG

Saxon Motor & General Insurance Company Ltd announced the two winners from the SaxonMG transformation Facebook challenge on Friday, 2 September. Lauren Bush and Shonari Gow each won an iPad2 for their participation. The two-month contest encouraged Facebook members to post feedback to SaxonMG’s Facebook wall outlining what they want from their insurance company. “Our customers are in the driver’s seat,” said SaxonMG CEO Brian Williams, “and using social media is another communication tool which provides a platform for our customers and our future customers to communicate their expectations directly to us.”

Harneys

Following the appointment of offshore litigation specialist Ian Mann as head of litigation and restructuring for Asia and his relocation from the BVI to Hong Kong, the Hong Kong office of Harneys has recruited former Jones Day litigation associate Adrienne Chan. Ms Chan has experience advising clients on domestic and cross-border commercial disputes, contractual disputes and litigation, commercial fraud, insolvency and arbitration.

Consolidated Water

Consolidated Water’s board of directors has declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.075 per share. The dividend is payable 31 October to shareholders of record at the close of business on 1 October.

Appleby

Appleby has appointed David Boyd as head of Fund Services in Cayman. Mr. Boyd specialises in providing fund administration services and directorships to investment funds and special purpose vehicles. He has more than 12 years of fund administration experience in the Cayman Islands and joins the firm from Maples Fund Services, where he was head of the Registrar and Transfer Agency and Client Accounting groups.

Mourant Ozannes

The Mourant Ozannes Scholarship Scheme, which is open to students either about to start, or who have started, a Bachelor of Laws degree at either the Cayman Islands Law School or abroad,

gave two of its scholarship recipients the opportunity to work alongside the lawyers at the offshore firm over the summer. All Mourant Ozannes scholarship recipients work with the firm for a minimum of four weeks during the summer holidays. Upon completion of their legal degrees, and attainment of satisfactory grades, recipients may be offered the opportunity to pursue Articles of Clerkship with the firm.
